Μαρξ και πρωταρχική συσσώρευση. Ο διαρκής χαρακτήρας των «περιφράξεων» του κεφαλαίου

Περίληψη

Σύμφωνα με μια από τις επικρατούσες παραδοσιακές μαρξιστικές ερμηνείες, η αντίληψη του Μαρξ για την πρωταρχική συσσώρευση δείχνει την ιστορική διαδικασία που γέννησε τις προϋποθέσεις (preconditions) του καπιταλιστικού τρόπου παραγωγής. Αυτές οι προϋποθέσεις αναφέρονται κυρίως στη δημιουργία ενός τμήματος του πληθυσμού το οποίο δεν έχει άλλους τρόπους επιβίωσης παρά μόνο να πουλήσει την εργατική του δύναμη σε μια εκκολαπτόμενη αγορά εργασίας και στην συσσώρευση του κεφαλαίου, το οποίο μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί για τις αναδυόμενες βιομηχανίες. Με αυτή την έννοια, το επίθετο «πρωταρχική» αντιστοιχεί σε μια σαφή χρονικά διάσταση (στο παρελθόν), η οποία αποτέλεσε τη συνθήκη για το καπιταλιστικό μέλλον. Ο De Angelis αντικρούει αυτήν την ορθόδοξη μαρξιστική ανάλυση και επιχειρηματολογεί για την μονιμότητα της πρωταρχικής συσσώρευσης, αναλύει τις σκοπιμότητες πίσω από τις ερμηνείες της ιστορικής - στατικής πρωταρχικής συσσώρευσης και θέτει στο επίκεντρο της ανάλυσής του, τους κοινωνικούς ταξικούς αγώνες που αναγκάζουν διαρκώς το κεφαλαίου να ανασυντίθεται και να ανταπαντά με την μονιμότητα της πρωταρχικής συσσώρευσης.

Μετα από αρκετές δεκαετίες αδιάκοπων νεοφιλελεύθερων περιφράξεων, η ιδέα των «κοινών» απολαμβάνει μια αναγέννηση μεταξύ μερικών νέο-κενσυανών οικονομολόγων και σχολιαστών, ενώ η πολιτική επιστήμονας Elinor Ostrom, έχει μόλις βραβευτεί με το Νόμπελ οικονομίας για «την ανάλυσή της πάνω στην οικονομική διακυβέρνηση, ειδικά των κοινών». Ο Massimo De Angelis εξηγεί γιατί τα κοινά του κεφαλαίου πάντα θα είναι διαστρεβλωμένα – επειδή βασίζονται στη κοινωνική αδικία – και επειδή εμείς μπορούμε μόνο να επαναοικιοποιούμαστε τα κοινά από το κεφάλαιο μέσω της κατασκευής κοινών συμφερόντων.

Reflections on Tronti

Περίληψη

It has been suggested to me, in the corridors of the Historical Materialism conference held over the week end, that what distinguishes what we may call, broadly speaking, autonomist marxism with other marxist approaches is the argument that the “working class” is the agent of transformation that pushes capital on the defence and forces its “economic” development rather then, on the contrary, being capital that “overdetermines” the rest by means of its agency. This suggestion furthermore is accompanied by the claim that this view is false, since capital has “more power.” In my view, the insight of 1960s operaismo with respect to working class agency were not falsified in light of 1980s capital’s agency, they were simply temporally bounded. Class struggle, in a process-like manner, have at least two broad actors, not one, and their tragic-comic struggle develop through highs and lows for both sides, “scoring points” for both sides. The process of this historical development of struggle, this very process of “point scoring” for one or the other, is the stuff of capitalist development. The problem is that acknowledging this does not give us any hint of how to go beyond capital and the very specific form of struggle shaping its development.

The Production of Commons and the “Explosion” of the Middle Class

Περίληψη

This paper builds on the author's previous theoretical work on the role of processes such as enclosures, market discipline and governance. It discusses the middle class in terms of a stratified field of subjectivity within the planetary wage hierarchy produced by these processes. It discusses the thesis that the middle class, qua middle class, will never be able to contribute to bring about a fundamental change in the capitalist system of livelihood reproduction. The production in common centered on middle class values—however historically and culturally specific they are—is always production in common within the system. Our common action as middle class action, whether as consumers, workers, or citizens, reproduces the system of value and value hierarchy that is the benchmark, the referent point for our cooperation. The paper then discusses some of the implications of the conundrum faced by those who seek alternatives: there will be no “beginning of history” without the middle class, nor there will be one with the middle class.

Enclosures and Disciplinary Integration

Περίληψη

This is chapter 7 of my 2007 book The Beginning of History. Its title is Enclosures and Disciplinary Integration and it discusses capitalist crises as “disequilibrium” crises or “social stability” crises. It might be useful to provide a general framework to understand the current crisis in terms of the latter. It also maps out crises as mechanisms for capitalist reproduction and discusses the role of shifting capitalist governance to deal with these crises as well as the possible cracks in this governance
